Perfectionism can be an incredible inhibitor. When we become consumed by the desire to create an ideal world — one where every detail aligns perfectly — we risk losing sight of the genuine beauty around us. This sculpture depicts a bird’s nest delicately balanced on a tree growing within an artificial ‘sky,’ represented by blue paper surrounding it. The nest builder’s focus on crafting an idealized reality, symbolized by this false sky and fabricated birds painted on its surface, has left them sheltered from the real, expansive blue sky beyond. Through this piece, I explore how the pursuit of perfection can trap us within our own constructs, separating us from the raw and unpredictable beauty of life. When we strive too hard for control, we may end up confined and shielded from the very world we long to connect with.
